One of my short screenplays, Milton, has garnered mixed reviews. It's won some awards, it's gotten a respectable number of rejections...

It also has not been my personal favorite of all of my written work. However, after attending a film festival this past weekend where it was accepted, and got a live reading, I've warmed up to it a bit. Mostly because so many people told me that they loved it and wanted to see it on screen. So I relented and said yes.

So, I have decided to take on my first directing role in 6 years. It wasn't difficult to do, but I recruited the lead actress from my last film, Promise Me to be in the film. She's not the "star" this time, but she's perfectly OK with that.

I plan to do a Kickstarter to help defer some of the cost, and that poses a challenge of its own. Raising money at any time is hard, and post COVID and the timing (Right after the new year) just make it more challenging.

Although the script is set in Santa Fe, I'm moving it locally (Because there are people that visit here to see some reality/cable TV related stuff) and casting younger than the script calls for. That's more out of necessity since I don't have a large pool to pull from. I've already cast 2 of the 3 roles, and have several months to go before shooting so I'll wait to see about casting the 3rd.

The locations are going to be a bit of a challenge, partly because of the limited time available to shoot at a farmer's market (Ours is only 4 hours per week) and the cost of the B&B for 2 days.

Regardless of the challenges, I can't wait to get started. I anticipate filming in February-ish and hope to start submitting to festivals by the end of March.
