I don't think they're super well known, however I've observed their value to winners has been more the introductions they've been able to facilitate with their own network/known industry-associates
Yes, this is one of the key reasons I'm happy to get behind Stage 32 competitions. They put a lot of work into promoting their winners. I'm more than happy to be running the only site out there supporting them.
Also I think a certain number of online screenwriters (not aimed @ anyone in this thread) don't really have any idea what the industry wants but still wish to sound authoritative on the chance they'll be seen by some mythical producer who will fly them on his back to sit on the Hollywood sign in recognition.
This, along with all the Chinese whispers that come with it is one of the core issues in the amateur screenwriting world. Not only do these people spread their BS views like its fact, they hound working industry members out of their communities because they have their status challenged.
I know of so many writers with no credits, experience, or connections positioning themselves as experts with careers and they have thousands of followers.
Message received CJ. There's a lot of good stories out there. Lots of good writers. As a writer, you have to contribute in other areas in the production as well to ensure success. Finances is a good addition. I'm learning.
You don't have to but I feel it gives you a considerable advantage over the competition. Most writers I see are completely ignorant to how films get made and film history in general.

I def get these days why certain persons who reach the penthouse don't bother to send the elevator back down. Can be a frustrating interpersonal slog at times. Does make some appreciate those that do more tho.
