So I am pushing 40 and have never had a "private-screening" (just myself and my party) of a theater film. A number of times I have purposefully chosen an off day/hour (when feasible) but there is ALWAYS that one other person/group which shows up... including that one kinda odd seeming guy who bumbled in 15 minutes late that one time and ruined my best chance. I mean, I'm not gonna fault anyone for wanting to see a movie I show up to but uh.
Some theaters here are now renting out screenings for private groups but I consider that cheating. lol
I have a VR headset so every screening is a private screening.
I've had the cinema to just myself before now. My ex-wife had a very strange experience where her and a friend found their seats, put their drinks down, went to the restrooms, and returned to find two women had decided to sit in their place and move all their stuff. They were the only two other people there for the film. Wierd.
I recall mine was right after High School when I saw the movie Traffic with a friend. Around midpoint some woman near the back stood up and started screaming "It's not real! They want you to think this is real but it's not real!" and multiple variations of same till she was escorted out by security or theater staff.
We were like "no kidding, nobody was under the impression this was a documentary". heh
I recollect very little about the movie but still remember that business.
When I got divorced and moved back in with my parents, I had to move into a single bedroom with no TV or any other form of entertainment. I was considering getting a TV and a games console but it timed well with the release of the first Oculus Quest. It's brilliant. I get to play some very active games and watch movies and TV on a virtual big screen.
It's hard to explain what it's like and the experience is intense at first. After the first week or so, your brain re-configures itself to accept that everything it can see and hear is fake, but then you take the headset off and reality itself doesn't feel genuine. People are going to be so screwed up in the future.
Hm. I would almost be worried about initial motion sickness... maybe will try someday.
I'm gonna be one of those people that need to be taught hyper-mail in my 70's tho (which I would not have assumed while younger). Already refuse to engage with QR codes on principle. lol
I think a lot of writers hate to write; they like hanging out in the journalistic subculture and they like seeing their name in print at the end, but the actual writing is painful. Red Smith, the great sportswriter, said: there’s nothing to writing, you just open a vein and bleed. I think that’s nuts.
No kidding! My condolences. I've been to the dentist like 4 times in the last 20 years. Had to have a deep cleaning done bout a year ago. Still never a cavity tho (chomp on carrots) (!) , which I imagine must in some part relate to genetics.
Just a thought. Some day we will just think of what we write and it comes out in a script. Makes me wonder what my thoughts are when I am high as a kite like when I go to the dentist.
Downloaded Grammarly browser extension, but have disabled in screenwriting software till script completion since it's apparent that it and script formatting are distant relations. LOL
Thanks, bro! It's all in the ears. jk Tho many always thought my Dad was like a decade younger than he was so perhaps there is some hope still this way.
Post 40 doctor appointment. Apparently, I won't be one of those people who lives to age 105 on 2 Coors Lights and a cigar per day. :/ (had the "taking a bit better care of yourself" conversation, not immediate death that I know of)
Ok folks, I applied to start my LLC, S corp, where I am the sole decision maker. I have decided the rough game plan, I will start with a documentary. This opens up a plethora of grant money. Further, the clips I use in the documentary I can re-use at no cost for the movie.
CJ-I am going to attach a completion bond to assure any who invest that the movie will be completed...with or without me. What do you know about completion bonds? Costs.
I will hire independent contractors thereby only needing liability insurance for the site. From my construction contracting experience, I will be OSHA compliant.
Geez, what a person will do to have his script read!
Bonds are a misunderstood vehicle. I am NOT a lawyer. I know enough to know, I don't know enough. Any questions anyone has should seek out a lawyers advice.
In Construction, we would buy a bond to cover the construction project's cost to complete. Say one day I say, Fuck You, your feet stink and walk off the job..."eat me". The client calls the bond company and tells them work has stopped. The bond company completes the project. The bond company turns around and tells you, hey asshole, you owe us this much (cost of completion) AND related costs,i.e. lawyers fees!
You tell the bond company, "eat me", and then they seize your assets you pledged when you purchased the bond. Can only purchase a bond by pledging assets. INSURANCE COMPANIES DON'T EXPECT TO GET PAID, BOND COMPANIES DO! That's a common man's understanding of bonds.
Hi Anthony, sounds like a great step forward. Are you still in the Chicago area? So many theaters and arts programs to connect with.
There was a recent article in the Hollywood Reporter about the financing of "Rust" with an overview of film financing strategies, may be of interest: "'Rust' Shines Spotlight on Opaque Indie Film Financing Scheme." I subscribe to HR email updates and it's useful to keep up with industry news.
Thanks Kaye. (in my Chicago accent), Your da best. I'll look up the article and see if it's open to me. I am writing a stage play called "Chicago Rivers". It's loosely based on the format of "Spoon River" I like it. If this film doesn't pan out, I'll pursue the stage. The stage, at minimal cost of a few thousand, is within costs I can afford.

That is for sure an oddity.

She tried to warn you, dude. Now you're in the Matrix and I'm in a Matrix within the Matrix on my headset.
I think in a matrix simulation I'd want the faucets to have hot, cold & fish n' chips on tap. LOL
CJ - What is a VR headset for? Movies? Games? Have never used such myself. Comfortable experience?

Read an interview of George Will:
I was like o O (He knows me!) LOL. The whole article is actually quite good provided one has interest in contemporary American culture/politics. https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2021/09/17/future-politics-conser...
Dental surgery sucks. I can barely type.
No kidding! My condolences. I've been to the dentist like 4 times in the last 20 years. Had to have a deep cleaning done bout a year ago. Still never a cavity tho (chomp on carrots) (!) , which I imagine must in some part relate to genetics.
Get well soon Lily!
Just a thought. Some day we will just think of what we write and it comes out in a script. Makes me wonder what my thoughts are when I am high as a kite like when I go to the dentist.
Thanks. Derek. Painkillers help.
Honestly, I was so drugged at the dentist yesterday that I don't remember anything lol.
Poor Lily. Sorry for your discomfort.
So if they give you lemons, make lemonade. Enjoy the high.
Thanks, Tony. Slowly healing.
It's not the teeth themselves. There's an area that doesn't support some of my teeth. So we all knew dental surgery was going to be needed eventually.

Forty revolutions around the sun circa today. womp womp.
Many happy returns, brother. You look way younger.
Thanks, bro! It's all in the ears. jk Tho many always thought my Dad was like a decade younger than he was so perhaps there is some hope still this way.
You look marvelous, darling.

Thank you Lily, compliments returned!
Power out here since Sunday morning (back late Tuesday). Modern society is tenuous. LOL

Anthony - Rad!
Hey Antony, I've no experience with bonds sadly. SAG demand 50% of actor's fees are kept in one. Sounds like you're kicking ass.

Genuinely felt like I was in Chicago reading this. Now I'm going to have to eat an upside down pizza.
