Querying Hallmark?

I read somewhere that Hallmark is better than some for accepting queries and reading scripts. Has anyone had luck with them?

Personally, I have no experience with Hallmark. However, I do know a Canadian screenwriter who had their screenplay optioned by Hallmark. She queried using IMDB Pro.

I've not queried them but Shane and I have been in conversations with their head of development before now.

Keep in mind that Hallmark also acquire a lot of content from major production houses like Marvista and The Assylum so it's worth querying them too.

I have it randomly written down that a sizable-ish amount of Hallmark is produced by Chesler Perlmutter Productions out of Canada - tho I've had no reason to contact them as yet. http://www.chesperl.com/

Their e-mail addy has "submissions" in it tho, so appears fairly friendly.

They are very tough to crack. My manager has submitted a couple of my screenplays; they claim they want something new, fresh; and when you send them something new, they respond that they it's not like their normal programming. The other thing is that no one person makes the decision. If a development exec likes your script, it then goes to their development board. The script needs to be approved by the entire board or it isn't made. One of my scripts is with a long time Hallmark producer now - and if they option it, it will need to go through that process and pass the boards approval.  Not holding my breath.

Oh, it gets even more fun than that. After everyone has carefully combed through the script to make sure it's now exactly the same as every previous movie they've made, it will go into production with everyone watching it like a hawk and the director will have the delight of having to send a photo of how the scene looks through the monitors for approval before they can yell action.

How creatively empowering.

It's been a few years now of writers targeting Hallmark because it looks easy and buoyant. It was TV networks before that and anyone who might produce a zombie of vampire movie before that.

Believe me, once something is being discussed as an opportunity on screenwriting forums, the peak of the bell curve has been reached.

Find the gap which suits your voice.

Or... one could do something that was popular 40+ years ago and on the off chance it rolls around again, they will be in prime position to strike, as my 1970s sideburns will attest. LOL

Tho after watching "Victorian Bakers" (2016) I'm not sure if the men were just trying to look period for it or if sideburns never went out of fashion in the UK. heh

I mean, you're not wrong. It's going to be a long wait for all those people who frantically wrote those Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 scripts though.
