JK Jones has been a writer his entire life. For 26 years, he worked at a newspaper on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. "A creative, interesting gentleman who writes real-life stories and dialogue," said Former Stillman College Associate Professor of Journalism Stephen Flanigan Jackson. He’s written E-books under a pen name and had a successful five-year run of best-selling E-books that started in 2009. His debut novel, Picking Cotton, is now a screenplay. During the Christmas holidays in 2014, he decided to pursue a lifelong dream of writing movies. His short screenplay, Instant Replay, was accepted by the Cannes Latitude Film Festival. Jones has written two other screenplays during this time. Jones’ passion for writing began at Holt High School in 1986. He served as Sports Editor of the Purple Reign, the school's newspaper until graduating in 1988. It opened the door to a successful sports writing career. During Jones’ last two years at Holt High, he was named the prestigious Who’s Who Among American High School Students. “I can’t envision my writing career without my Junior year at Holt,” Jones said. “Taking Speech Communications allowed me to find a career. At that point I wanted to become a writer.” At Stillman College, Jones’ writing continued to blossom. He was Sports Editor of the Tigers' Paw from 1989 to 1991 and Editor-in-chief in 1991 until graduating a year later. Jones’ academic excellence continued at Stillman and also took Magazine Journalism classes at the University of Alabama. His last two years were spent on the Dean’s List and finished with a 3.1 Grade Point Average. In 2016, Jones received a Distinguished Sportsman Award from the Gulfport (Miss.) Sports Hall of Fame. The city honored Jones for his outstanding contribution and well-written sports stories on athletes. Born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on October 18, 1969, Jones currently lives in Selma, Alabama, has an adult daughter and granddaughter.
