Laz Rojas

Actor, screenwriter, filmmaker, artist, cartoonist, one-man movie studio, creative genius.

Born and raised in New York City, Laz Rojas is a multi-talented actor, writer, and filmmaker, as well as an artist and cartoonist. His one-man showcase -- a production written, directed, produced, and edited entirely by him, and in which he portrays over a hundred different characters in more than fifty scenes -- has been hailed as a tour-de-force and a work of genius, and portions of it were included in the 2008 Sony Pictures release "Pineapple Express". Additionally, the showcase was recently shown at the Cinefamily in Los Angeles, exhibited at the La Rada Gallery as part of the Locarno Film Festival, and is the subject of a documentary by VICE entitled "Man of a Hundred Faces". It is also currently being offered by Night Flight's streaming subscription service.

Mr. Rojas can do it all, from acting to writing to directing to editing, and he has been called a one-man movie studio and a creative powerhouse. As an actor, he is fully adept at both comedy and drama and has a chameleon-like ability to transform himself into and portray any character. As a writer, he is just as versatile, having written a variety of screenplays of multiple genres. As a filmmaker, he has an auteur-like command of every aspect of a production, from characters to costumes to sets. Such is his all-encompassing vision that Jelly Helm, former Executive Creative Director at the Wieden+Kennedy ad agency, has compared him to Orson Welles because of his multiple skills and abilities both in front of and behind the camera.

"Laz Rojas is a special genius. In all the years I've been lucky to be part of a community of filmlovers dedicated to finding and discovering the strange and unusual, from all corners of the world...few have matched the charm and independent virtuosity of Laz Rojas. Watching his acting reel, re-enacting scenes from his own screenplays, playing every part, male or female, young or old... the technical virtuosity and ingenuity is astonishing. He is maybe my favorite 'outsider' filmmaker."
-- Hadrian Belove, Head Programmer, The Cinefamily

"Impressive. Shades of Orson Welles!"
-- Jelly Helm, Executive Creative Director, Wieden+Kennedy ad agency

"The cinema's truest auteur... This is cinema and life and loneliness and
longing and joy and sorrow and a thousand freaking amazing wigs..."
-- Spencer Parsons, Associate Professor, Northwestern University

"Laz Rojas is a genius. On YouTube, he has a bunch of clips from this incredible demo tape... I really can’t believe how multi-talented this guy is!! It’s so exciting!"
-- Guthrie Lonergan, new media artist, on Nasty Nets

"LAZ ROJAS - Home made, one man Hollywood. His YouTube vids are mind blowing..."
-- Guthrie Lonergan again, on The Year In The Internet 2006

"He epitomizes, to me, a true indie filmmaker... I love this man, simply because he is not afraid to do what he dreams."
-- Daniela Capistrano, Associate Producer, MTV News

"Multi-faceted showcase of a multi-talented individual... ...astonishing ability to convincingly convey a seemingly endless roster of unique characters of all ages, races and sexes... Be prepared to feel puny, or at least dull, by comparison."
-- Will Viharo, Placevine Studios

"The highlight of the event had to be watching the Laz Rojas clips up on a big screen, in the context of art rather than in the context of silly Youtube craziness. He really did create something wholly unique and uniquely strange in a way that a more deliberate or deliberately ironic artist never would have."
-- Bryan Poyser, board member, Cinematexas film festival

"This man is the Cindy Sherman of self-made video."
-- Bryan Poyser again

"Laz Rojas puts on a one man show. Hollywood, why do you keep hiring Scarlett Johansson when you could have Laz?"
-- Michael Connor, Head of Exhibitions, British Film Institute

"Wow, this guy is amazing."
-- Elizabeth Abrams, founding member, Austin Video Bee
