Maura Campbell is a published author (non-fiction) and emerging screenwriter. She was one of the participants in BBC Writers Room NI’s Hothouse 2021 Programme.

Her first short film Copy That (dark comedy) was supported through Northern Ireland Screen’s New Shorts Focus Programme 2019/20 and placed as a semi-finalist in the Oscar/BAFTA-qualifying Flickers Rhode Island Film Festival as well as being awarded Best UK Short at the London Shorts Film Festival, selected as a finalist by The People’s Film Festival and shown at several festivals worldwide. She was also a participant in NI Screen’s New Writer Focus Programme 2018/19, through which she developed her first feature screenplay. Her latest feature script, Unspoken, placed as a finalist in the 2021 Screen and Story Film Festival screenwriting contest and is currently in development.

Maura’s broadcast credits include the BBC Ouch show Tales of the Misunderstood (a 10 minute monologue filmed at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe Festival which aired on BBC Radio 4 and was shown on the BBC iPlayer) and BBC Radio 4’s Four Thought programme (a 15 minute monologue, Thinking Differently About Difference, broadcast in June 2018).                                                    

Maura has also written for a wide range of autism and disability publications. She is Senior Editor and Features Writer for Spectrum Women Magazine, a free online magazine by and for women on the autism spectrum, and co-author of Spectrum Women – Walking to the Beat of Autism (2018), Spectrum Women – Autism and Parenting (2020), and The Neurodiversity Reader (2020).

Maura is a career civil servant. She lives in County Down with husband Stephen, son Darragh, his Assistance Dog Ash and Baz the cat, who is no help whatsoever.
