A hypnic jerk is an involuntary twitch which occurs just as a person is beginning to fall asleep, often causing them to awaken suddenly for a moment. Physically, hypnic jerks resemble the 'jump' experienced by a person when startled, sometimes accompanied by a falling sensation. Hypnic jerks are associated with a rapid heartbeat, quickened breathing, sweat, and sometimes a peculiar sensory feeling of 'shock' or 'falling into the void'. A higher occurrence is reported in people with irregular sleep schedules.

In the beginning, I had it all figured out. I got the grades and got the girl. And then the job. They all wanted me. The dream home. The winning smile. The firm handshake. "Youngest ever", they said. "We gave you the most," they laughed, "but then we had a little chat, and we gave you more." When you travel in a straight line, it's easy to forget when you're going too fast. It's easy to miss what is right in front of you. The speed is addictive. The chasing of the elusive finish line that never comes.

And then, you wake up. Covered in sweat, and realize there was never a race. But you lost.

Two years ago, my priorities changed. I had to lose something precious to remember who I was and what I wanted to achieve. After a hiatus of several years, I started to write again. I bought a camera and began a new journey. Where taking time to observe and discover is the life and the dream. Where creating is more important than obtaining. And the more I look around, the more I see how many others are on the same path. We are here to work and grow together. And who knows what we can achieve.

I am here to write stories, and make films. I have a lot to learn about both, but that is the most exciting part of it.
