Synopsis/Details
Elmer Barns, an eccentric retired artist, lives alone at his remote Missouri lake ranch, painting and avoiding people. Then a silver saucer hovers over his property — and speaks in the voice of his wife, dead six months. No one in the nearby town of Cave believes him. Days later, Elmer disappears without a trace.
James, Elmer’s estranged brother — a driven Kansas City realtor with a failing marriage — arrives to handle the estate. He expects a quick sale. Instead, he meets the people of Cave: quirky, insular, and utterly indifferent to talk of UFOs. They live by their own rules — trading favors, nursing old grudges, and treating outsiders with wary amusement.
As James digs into Elmer’s disappearance, the saucer returns. The mystery deepens. The line between hallucination and reality blurs.
What begins as a practical errand becomes a personal reckoning. In Cave’s offbeat rhythm, James confronts the life he walked away from — and the brother who never did.
Sharp, funny, and deeply human, Elmer’s Saucer explores grief, brotherhood, community, belief, and the tension between art and ambition.

Prospects
"Elmer's Saucer" has a number of appealing hooks, including it's fantastical premise and its grounded characters. Elements seem almost Spielbergian, which is high praise. The audience may be divided by the ending, but they would talk about it.
