Emerald Lagoon village may not be finished yet, but it looks like paradise. The turquoise sea
lapping white sandy beaches lined by palm trees, with lush, jungle vegetation behind them and
a river running through it. Gregory Harfeld, the property developer, is stressed. The project is a
month behind and the guy welding the grate to seal the lagoon has gone missing and can’t be
found...
Six months later... the resort is half-finished. Tourists arrive by ferry, among them the orphaned
niece and nephew of Samantha “Sam” Landis, the resort manager. Nathan, a security guard,
explains the islanders are calling on “Penjaga”, a crocodile man of local legend, to stop further
development of the resort. The kids are more impressed by the iguanas adorning the lawns.
Sam takes them for a dive. Isaac sees two yellow eyes and a reptilian hand emerge from the
seagrass and freaks. Nobody believes him. That night, the Penjaga kills a security guard...
Sam has to go mediate between the Tuckers and the Yates over Daphne, Mrs. Tucker’s dog,
who strays into the Yates yard. Next Sam and Nathan meet Walter at the utility shed. The
pressure is low and the water tastes funny. Sam dives where the welder was working. The
outlet is blocked... by a skull! The cops find nothing.
Vanessa and Isaac befriend Jesse and Jason Flores. The boys are on an inflatable in the water. A
crocodile jumps up behind them to snatch a pelican. The girls wade out to save them. A scaly
creature rises up and knocks the boys off the inflatable. It attacks the croc, and they escape.
The dead croc bumps into Vanessa, rolls, and spurts blood. That night, the monster kills again...
Out for a run, Vanessa feels she’s being followed, but bumps into Jesse and shrugs it off. It’s her
day off from looking after Isaac. Sam bundles him off to town with Nathan to look at comics
while she deals with Dave, the croc hunter. Near the lagoon, Tucker, out walking with his wife
and her dog, is attacked by the Penjaga, leaving deep scratches on one of his legs. Sam closes
the lagoon until further notice, causing a mutiny amongst the guests. Harfeld is furious.
Dave tracks what he thinks is a croc. It attacks him and he has a lucky escape... The Landis house
is in an uproar. There’s something outside Isaac’s window. Sam investigates. The kids phone
Nathan and follow her out. They hear, then see — a Penjaga! With one swish of its tail, it sends
Sam flying. Nathan arrives. He shoots and wounds it, sending it running off. Dave traces it to the
lagoon, but there the trail runs cold.
Harfeld pressures Sam to re-open the lagoon, as he has organized a movie night on board the
resort’s boat. Sam joins Dave in the hunt for crocs. Meanwhile, Gary and Hank disobey the
order to stay off the lagoon. Their paddle boat is attacked and they only just make it ashore.
Dave and Sam capture a large croc but are attacked by the Penjaga. They get away and Dave
decides to call for more help. The Penjaga is at large and Harfeld is going ahead with his plans.
Dave catches a 15-foot croc. He’s convinced it’s the one. Sam isn’t, but Walter calls. When Sam
and Nathan arrive at the utility shed, Walter is gone. They find his phone, signs of a struggle,
and blood... Sam sends Nathan for Dave to protect the kids, while she investigates. Meanwhile,
Hank finds Daphne injured. The dog saves him from attack by the Penjaga but is hurt.
Underwater, Sam finds an opening near the intake grate. She swims into a cave and is attacked
by a Penjaga. She threatens it with her spear and it runs off into one of the tunnels. She gives
chase and emerges onto the river bank with the sun in her eyes, and is immediately attacked.
Dave appears, grabs Sam’s fallen spear, and impales the Penjaga. Another Penjaga dashes out
and kills Dave, then heads off to the lagoon. Sam pursues it.
The Penjaga sneaks aboard the boat where movie night is in full flow. Daphne senses it and
barks. People scream when they see the Penjaga. Nathan tries to keep it at bay, while the
others huddle behind him. It pins Nathan down, but just as it is about to bite him, Sam arrives
and spears him in the shoulder. Then it goes for Vanessa and Isaac, but Sam rushes it and both
fall overboard. She pulls the spear out of its shoulder and thrusts it into its torso. It is dead.
Harfeld closes the resort, but one of the investors was so impressed by Sam, that he offers her
a job.
