On a remote Indonesian island, Emerald Lagoon Village, a luxury resort, prepares to open its doors. Resort manager Samantha Landis welcomes the first wave of guests—including her estranged teenage niece Vanessa, and nephew Isaac, recently orphaned and forced to live with her. Beneath the glossy surface of paradise, the resort faces tension from local protestors warning against disturbing the island’s sacred waters and its legendary protectors—the Penjaga, crocodile-like guardians said to dwell in the lagoon’s depths.

As tourists settle in, small fractures appear in the resort’s idyllic image: frazzled staff, invasive developers, and unexplained disappearances hint at something lurking beneath the water. Personal conflicts mirror the island’s unrest—Samantha’s guilt and grief collide with Vanessa’s anger, as she tries to mend bridges.

During a scuba dive meant to reconnect Samantha with her family, Vanessa sees what appears to be a massive crocodilian creature in the water. Her panic clashes with Samantha’s denial—until a mutilated body surfaces, confirming that the Penjaga has awaken.
