Synopsis/Details
A 12-year-old boy is mistakenly shot during a drug raid in Chinatown.
Guarding her newly-elected position as mayor of San Francisco, DEBRA WALKER allows the blame for the shooting to deflect toward JESSIE HERRERA, a discredited SFPD detective, whose “chip-on-the-shoulder” over-aggressive tactics has marred her career path. Their animosity toward each other stems from their personal past triangulated by Jessie’s son, Jordan.
ALISON PRICE, a brash LGBTQ journalist, angles her investigation of the shooting toward YURI LING, who has taken the victim’s family under her wing. As an affluent private practice attorney with strong ties to the Chinese-American community, YURI must balance her legal responsibilities while tasked to oversee her dying Chinese legacy that pushes her outside of the law. YURI allows ALISON into her world knowing her secret link to the multi-national media company in which she is employed.
THE FIRST SEASON ARC:
Debra’s respect for Jessie is masked by her resentful treatment that stems from a relationship Jessie had with her husband Marcus. Forced into a collaborative mindset, Debra and Jessie must put personal vendettas and agendas aside. Their collaboration will reveal their past that stands between them. Jessie discovers Debra’s motivation to take down the Winecroft Corporation and questions her involvement in the drug raids that led to the shooting.
Alison and Yuri must maneuver similar responsibilities as both must craft themselves around a legacy handed to them that control many lives. That commonality will set them on similar paths that will draw them together. Each must battle with those that are adverse to change and willing to wrestle their power by any means possible. Their power and responsibility will also put them at odds on a level neither wishes to be a part of, but a reality that is ultimately unavoidable.
SERIES ARC:
SF: The City is a metaphor representing the four main characters who will wield the power in their professions as women — positions typically held by men. As with many series involving power and legal issues the ensemble will find the line between right and wrong will become blurred.
The ensemble cast, with its diverse backgrounds and interpersonal relationships as a B-storyline will be the backdrop for their professional stature and will offer different angles, approaches and viewpoints for each, allowing the series to develop a myriad of current, trending plot lines for women.
As it fulfills each season’s arc, the A-storyline will span several episodes with the emphasis on their professional dealings and will shift between each character’s professional roles and their supporting characters and the internal and interpersonal conflicts between them.
But, one thing is for certain, they will shatter the glass ceiling they all ultimately battle against, and change the rules.
