Synopsis/Details

HAWTHORNE is a historical drama series set in the decades before the American Civil War.

Born into privilege but raised with an uncommon sense of compassion, Robert Hawthorne grows up on one of the South's most influential plantations. While his strict mother prepares him to inherit power, his father teaches him something far more dangerous: empathy.

As a child, Robert finds friendship beyond the boundaries of race and class with Maisy, a young Black girl growing up among the enslaved families on the estate. Their bond survives years of separation, social pressure, and an increasingly divided world.

When Robert leaves for Boston to pursue his education, he enters a society that claims moral superiority over the South but is driven by many of the same ambitions, hypocrisies, and compromises. At the same time, back home, Maisy emerges as an unexpected leader among her community while Thomas Hawthorne finds himself locked in a growing conflict with powerful plantation owners who view compassion as weakness.

Spanning love, family, loyalty, sacrifice, and social change, HAWTHORNE explores how ordinary people confront an unjust system—and what it costs to remain human while trying to change it.

At its heart, HAWTHORNE is the story of a father and son, a lifelong love that refuses to disappear, and a man who spends his life fighting for freedom while unknowingly racing against the same illness that once claimed his father.
