Synopsis/Details:

It’s so hard to lead an ordinary life when you have extraordinary gifts. But that’s exactly what KYRA WOOD and her family are trying to do – lead a nomad existence in a stationary society. After the sudden disappearance of their father, KYRA’S mother, Anne, decides that it’s time for KYRA and her younger brother, Kyle, to give up their vagabond ways and settle down in the land where the unusual is the ordinary – New York City.

In the city that never sleeps, KYRA can’t help but stand out with her positive outlook on life, bold fashion sense, and eccentric heritage…she’s a Roma. Armed with a thunderstorm of creativity and psychic power, KYRA is a force to be reckoned with – being a psychic is tough enough but being a teen psychic can be a hormonal nightmare, especially when you know what everyone’s thinking about.

On KYRA’S first day of private school, she gets frustrated with “overhearing” teens giving teens the wrong advice and tries to interject her own insight by using the cover that she originally read the advice on a blog. To keep up the front, KYRA creates The Modern Mystic: an (AUDIENCE INTERACTIVE) advice blog for everyone. The Modern Mystic is an immediate hit, becoming the “New Age ‘Dear Prudence’ for Teens.”

With The Modern Mystic, KYRA has a blast each week putting on a show of her own. KYRA dresses up in disguise as a beautiful and mysterious Rom fortuneteller, complete with a crystal ball and tarot cards. She dispenses her psychic opinion with a zest for life and positive showmanship. To keep her advice flowing and her intuition sharp, KYRA also responds to readers’ questions in an advice column on her Modern Mystic website.

KYRA has the best of both worlds: she is an everyday relatable girl that flies under the public radar but in private, can be her outrageous and zany self where nothing is off-limits from the “two cents” that she has to offer. But as time goes on, The Modern Mystic gets to be more popular than KYRA ever imagined. The more popular The Modern Mystic gets, the harder it is for KYRA to separate her two lives.

The Writer: Allie Theiss

My love of creating new worlds and experiences started in 2nd grade. I had my Elementary Principal convinced to let me put on my two-person play about a fairy princess in the school’s auditorium. That is – until she found out it was a kid-sanctioned, not school-sanctioned, event. Poo on her – I put it on in my backyard for my neighborhood! I love to create new worlds, take a deep dive into a current world, and invent characters that appeal to A-List talent.
