Sven Thames, a one-of-a-kind freak, on the week before he and his friends graduation, pays a visit to a skate shop one day, where Iggy, the store owner, offers him a free skateboard, with one catch, learn to live free. Sven readily accepts, hopeful that things will turn out for him. However, he quickly learns that his crush, blonde and perky Erin Tate, is leaving their hometown of Clearwater, Florida to start art school in Manhattan. Sven, embarrassed by his looks, tries in vain to impress her, all while hiding his unique looks, in hopes that she just might stay. Meanwhile, Sven's former friend, now turned bully, Jason (and his little sister, Ava), struggle to maintain a sense of normalcy while under the ruthless order of their twisted mother Sandra, a widow, abuser, and religious fanatic. Throwing more fix into the mix, Selena Taylor, known to many of Clearview High as "the slut", grows fed up with her title, and in an effort to shift the negative publicity off of her, decides to post a photo of Sven that would effectively, end his high school existence, albeit, for one week. She hesitates however, and it is not until Sven and the rest of his friends help she and her former boyfriend Alex (also Sven's friend) get back together, that she breaks down, has a fit, and uploads the photo to her social media page. Sven and his pals quickly find out at PE Class where fingers are pointed, feathers are ruffled, a challenge is initiated. During the ensuing chase, Jason learns of Sven's unique abilities, returns home, and tries to kill his mother. In a sick twist of fate, however, Sandra gives Jason exactly what he wants. She dies, minutes before Sven arrives, too both of their shock. As Sven and his pals, ponder what to do, they, after learning of Jason's fate and impending trial, decide to spend one final night together, to blow off steam. The group, consisting of Sven, Alex, Erin, Ginny (Sven's would-be lover), Billy (a bully with the heart for Ginny), Jerry (Billy's trusted sidekick), Sarah (Sven's sister), Ava (Jason's), and two other of their classmates, arrive at their destination, the Countryside Mall, ready to shop the night away. As the group split up inside, begin reconnecting with one another, Selena comes to her senses and hurries over, just in the nick of time. At the mall, Sven, in an effort to save Ginny and Billy from being pegged as shoplifters, strips naked, jumps on board, and goes up against three of the mall's finest, a disgruntled store employee, a cocky security guard, and his "All Brawn, no Brains" co-worker. Sven claims victory over the three, decides to go to New York with Erin, as Alex and Selena make up, and Ginny and Billy realize their love for each other. In the end, Sven pays a final visit to Jason in prison, before returning to Iggy, where he rewards Sven of his efforts with a new board. Sven decides to celebrate his victory by performing the legendary 900 over a bridge in the local park, as Erin, Iggy, and his future skateboarder, and son, Ryker, cheer him on.
