All Accolades & Coverage:

Blacklist Review: The unique premise of an all-female, women-led boxing gym is inherently compelling, and strong themes of coming of age, loss, and empowerment, as well as a hard-hitting look at the impact of sexual assault, make this script both timely and resonant. Though there are many male-centric, heavily masculine boxing films and television shows, this script is truly novel for its addition of a female coach and female students to the sports cannon. The narrative is led by two different but equally fierce female powerhouses, Winnifred and Oz, who are supported by a similarly strong rotating cast of female players, such as Ella, June, Ms. Orian, and Ice. Winnifred’s arc from complacent outcast to boxing hopeful is interesting to watch unfold. Her relationships with her mother, Ella, her father, Sterling, and new friend, June, are the heart of this script and ground the narrative in clear emotions. The writer has cleverly imbued Oz with a strong sense of past, which informs her actions in the present.
