Synopsis/Details
London, 1952. Amid the fog and austerity of postwar Britain, ex-Army Captain Charles “Chaz” Ogilsby runs a failing antiques shop in Hampstead — a man clinging to the tattered pride of Empire. Arrogant, bigoted and haunted by his colonial past, Ogilsby exploits his loyal assistant Fred Smith, an autistic ex-batman whose quiet skill at crafting counterfeits keeps the shop alive.
When a mysterious trader from the docks offers Ogilsby a cache of East African relics, including a sealed sarcophagus bearing a wax-marked scarab seal, greed triumphs over caution. Inside lies the mummified remains of an ancient being — a Shetani, bound in death by ritual and curse. Ogilsby forces Smith to desecrate the relics in search of gold, but Smith, captivated by a beautiful obsidian-eyed scarab ring, slips it onto his finger.
What follows is a descent into night and madness. The ring’s spirit takes hold of Smith, twisting him into something feral, nocturnal — a vessel for rebirth. As murders spread through fog-choked Hampstead, Ogilsby realises too late that his own arrogance has unleashed the vengeance of the colonised dead. In a final confrontation beneath flickering bulbs and burning relics, greed, guilt, and ancient retribution collide — and only one will survive the night.
