Synopsis/Details

Eight-year-old Owen lies in his race car bed, seeking comfort from a signed baseball from his father while a thunderstorm rages outside. As a classic witch cartoon flickers on his TV, the rhythmic tapping of branches against his window gives way to the sound of footsteps approaching his bedside. A woman’s hand begins to stroke his hair tenderly, and Owen, believing his mother has come home early, leans into the touch. The atmosphere shifts instantly when the house's answering machine picks up a call from his actual mother, who explains she is still at work and running late. The hand abruptly vanishes, and the power cuts out, leaving Owen in total darkness. Armed only with a colorful, flickering candy spinner toy for light, Owen fearfully traverses his darkened home. In the living room, his light reveals a pale, wrinkled woman in black sitting on the couch with a wide, predatory smile. The figure lunges at him just as his real mother arrives home, seemingly restoring safety. His mother dismisses his terror as a misunderstanding, pointing out that the babysitter, Sierra, was simply sitting on the couch the whole time. However, as Sierra leaves with an unnervingly large grin, Owen returns to his room to find his window ajar and the glass case of his prized baseball shattered. The short concludes with the terrifying realization that the entity has not left: Owen hears the creature's raspy chuckles from his doorway while discovering a fresh apple on his floor—with a single bite taken out by jaundiced teeth.
