The Hide

A year since her beloved grandmother ELIZABETH died, and orphan MATILDA BARNES, a grungy, self-conscious teen with crippling anxiety, is now coming to terms with becoming clairvoyant.

When she learns about the disappearance of FIVE CHILDREN from her town decades ago, she begins to experience violent dreams of the kids being tortured and murdered by a MASKED KILLER.

The disturbing visions pile more anxiety on Matilda who is also being bullied by DAMIEN REID, the school thug who sexually assaulted her, and witnessing the violence of dementia patients at the care home she volunteers in.

To get away from it all, Matilda and her atheist grandfather THOMAS spend a weekend camping in his old BIRD-WATCHING HIDE on a nature reserve.

It should be the perfect getaway - but the night becomes a fight for survival for Matilda and Thomas as MALEVOLENT SPECTRES converge on them in the darkness.

Petrified and paranoid, they escape the nature reserve, but Matilda begins to suspect Thomas may know something about the missing children.

Back home, her visions intensify and the spirits of the missing children guide her to hidden compartments in her Grandfather’s house and visions of an abduction, leading to the horrifying conclusion that Thomas is involved in the children’s deaths.

As her friendships begin to buckle under the weight of Matilda’s anxiety and accusations against her sweet old grandfather, she confronts Thomas who tells her a shocking truth – he is dying of cancer.

Heartbroken and conflicted, Matilda tells Thomas of her suspicions. He protests his innocence and she believes him until the spirits reveal Thomas’s real secret – a scalpel and a key to a hidden compartment in the bird-watching hide.

Devastated, Matilda asks best friend BILLIE and psychic mentor ANNE to help her uncover the truth at the hide.

When they get there, Matilda and Billie are captured and held captive in a secret cellar beneath the hide where they are subjected to acts of violence and depravity at the hands of the MASKED ATTACKER from Matilda’s dreams.

As Matilda is about to be attacked, Thomas shows up to save them. But just when the girls think they are safe, Thomas reveals he and the masked killer worked together to kidnap and murder children for their body parts all those years ago – and that Elizabeth was also part of it.

With his secret exposed, Thomas cannot allow himself to go to prison nor for Matilda to tell the truth so he decides to sacrifice them all by gassing the cellar.

As Matilda is about to face death, the spirits of the murdered children appear and Matilda uses her powers to work with them and escape.

With Thomas and the masked man dead, Billie and Matilda escape to safety as the police descend on the reserve, uncovering the full horror of the killing fields and the secrets of the hide.
