Synopsis/Details
When a young translator is assassinated in Moscow by a nearly impossible long-distance rifle shot, FBI profiler Jeannie Loomis is asked to assist Russian authorities investigating what appears to be the work of a ghost — a sniper capable of killing from distances few marksmen could even attempt.
Teaming with Russian investigator Captain Alexei Volkov, Jeannie uncovers a chilling pattern of precision killings stretching back more than twenty years. Their investigation leads to Viktor Mirov, a former Russian intelligence officer whose connections to global defense contractors suggest the sniper may not be a lone killer, but a weapon used to eliminate dangerous secrets.
As the FBI simultaneously investigates a related attack in California, Loomis and Volkov realize the assassin they are hunting may be the most skilled marksman alive — a man trained from childhood in the deadly art of extreme-distance shooting.
Using mathematics, terrain analysis, and psychological profiling, Loomis and Volkov turn the hunt around, tracking the sniper to a remote ridgeline outside Moscow where the legendary killer prepares his next impossible shot. In a final race against time, the hunters become the hunted in a deadly confrontation that will end a two-decade reign of terror.
