Twenty years after an alien invasion, the new inhabitants of Earth have the sole purpose of infecting and replicating every human on the planet, assuming an emotionless version of their human form to conquer the world around them. THEO (44) and SAMANTHA MCLEAN (40), survivors of the initial attack, struggle to blend into a world of “Snatchers” while trying to protect their last remaining child, MICHAEL (11). Grappling with the death of their young daughter, JESSICA (8), the McLean's are constantly on the move, seeking refuge in the homes of the small population of Snatchers that sympathize with the surviving humans. The family is desperately trying to connect with a group of human survivors suspected of hiding on an island off the coast of California. While Theo has clung to the idea of reaching this colony, Samantha struggles to believe it exists. On their journey to California, the family gets into a car accident, crashing into what is discovered to be the Snatcher replicas of themselves. Upon further examination, the family realizes that the Snatcher replica of Jessica is the only Snatcher to have survived the accident. Still distraught from the loss of her daughter, Samantha convinces herself that the replica can be “turned” and humanized. Clinging to the idea of having their daughter back and wanting desperately to stop running, the family decides to travel with Jessica to the neighborhood their replicas were living, blending into the Snatcher community. Once embedded in the community, the family must do everything in their power to act like the Snatcher versions of themselves while they plan their next move. Meanwhile, Theo, still plagued by his guilt of having originally killed his daughter, struggles to open up to the new version of Jessica as he desperately tries to contact the colony of survivors.
