MARIA JONES is a dissatisfied, twentysomething bartender in Chicago that spends her nights caring for her paraplegic father, RONALD JONES and applying for the hit show, TRENDING, a game that grants instant influencer status to the winner. Having applied for every show since its inception, Maria's resiliency leads to her entry into a Trending drawing that will grant the winner a chance at fulfilling their dreams of internet celebrity if they’re bold enough to share their darkest secrets with the world.

Certain of her impending failure, Maria disregards her potential selection and returns to work the following day, but her past and present soon collide after a surprise visit from BEN SANTIA, Maria's best friend from high school. Ben and Maria's connection is evident, but the arrival of influencer and former Trending winner, VIVIAN TURNER, ends the pleasantries as her disdain for Vivian (and her past bullying) bubbles through upon Ben’s admission of being Vivian’s manager.

As the Trending announcement arrives, Maria's world is upended as the fame she so desperately sought barrels toward her. She strives to maintain control of her crumbling veneer, but as mistakes from her past are brought to light by the Trending team, Ben and Vivian take advantage of her fragility and offer to complete the game with her in a last-ditch attempt to leverage Maria's potential fame. While the three chase a potential Trending victory, their darkest secrets surface and threaten to cancel them all...permanently.
