A troubled detective operates outside the law when he buys an underage prostitute. When a 16-year-old goes missing, he uses her diary to reconstruct events that led to her disappearance, and unimaginable truths emerge.

At its core, “UNLAWFUL” is a dark tale about the corruption of youth.

This thriller is told in dueling perspectives between detective Ryan Risberg and a missing 16-year-old girl by the name of Sadie Mullen.

Risberg is a tortured soul, fresh out of a six-month stint in rehab. His inner-conflict is on display immediately when he solicits an underage prostitute named Deja for the week to help him get high. While his main goal is met by keeping Deja off the streets, it also feeds his selfish cravings by using her to help him bury a horrific childhood trauma.

What Deja doesn’t know is that Risberg is a detective who specializes in tracking down runaways and missing children. When he’s assigned to Sadie’s case, he discovers that she is from his hometown. With rumors swirling about her fate, Risberg uses her diary to reconstruct the events that may have led to her disappearance.

The farther he digs into Sadie’s life, the more a corrupt local sheriff begins to dig into his. As he gets closer to finding out the truth of what happened to Sadie, he stumbles upon the truth of what happened to his own daughter, taken from him long ago.
