Synopsis/Details

VERMILION is a psychological horror short set in New York City.

When struggling painter Ethan Vale suddenly falls into a trance-like state during a conversation with a friend, his speech becomes incomprehensible and his behavior deeply unsettling. Wandering through Central Park as if guided by an unseen force, Ethan leaves behind a trail of psychological contamination — culminating in a disturbing encounter with a young woman named Julia.

Back inside his isolated studio, Ethan uses his own blood to paint a grotesque image of a murder before it happens. As Julia becomes irresistibly drawn toward him, Ethan completes the horrifying vision he has created on canvas.

Blending psychological horror with surreal body horror, VERMILION explores artistic obsession, possession, identity dissolution, and the terrifying possibility that creation itself may be an infection.

The Writer: Ferenc Berki

I’m a Europe-based writer creating metaphysical sci-fi and atmospheric horror driven by psychological depth and existential themes. My stories explore identity, consciousness, and the fragile boundary between reality and the unknown. Alongside speculative fiction, I write LGBTQ+ narratives that focus on authentic human connection, transformation, and emotional truth — often blending genre storytelling with intimate character journeys. With a background in visual art and performance, my writing leans cinematic, immersive, and emotionally intense. I’m drawn to bold concepts, haunting imagery, and stories that challenge perception while remaining deeply human. All screenplays presented on this… Go to bio
