EMILIANO and CHARLOTTE are two Creative Writing grad students in El Paso, Texas. Emiliano is Mexican and lives in Juárez, while Charlotte is British and lives in El Paso. They have a happy relationship together but Charlotte has yet to cross to Juárez because she’s heard and read too many things about the city. Emiliano invites her to celebrate Thanksgiving with his family and after that, she starts to cross over every day just like he does.

One day, CBP OFFICER LOMAS takes away his student visa because it was about to expire. Charlotte decides to stay in Juárez as much as she can to help him fight the situation with the help of her father, an immigration lawyer. But as the Holidays go by without a clear solution and life gets worse on both sides of the border, their relationship starts to unravel, forcing Emiliano and Charlotte to face the reality of their relationship. Despite it all, they decide to stay together and fight for their happiness.

They manage to get a hearing with the CBP and successfully get an appeal. But just as Emiliano has gotten his new student visa, the border closes over a political dispute. Heartbroken and lost, Emiliano asks Charlotte to take a break as they figure out what to do. Charlotte’s family calls for her return because they’re not sure if the border closure could worsen. She decides to travel by plane from El Paso to Mexico City, and finally to Juárez to see Emiliano for the Día de Reyes. The morning after, she hatches a plan so they can both escape to London. And finally, they leave together into an uncertain future.

My passion for storytelling has stemmed from filmmaking and impacted different aspects of my life. I’m mainly focused on writing and making the kinds of gritty and mesmerizing thrillers, horror movies and sci-fi that I’d stay up watching late at night as a teenager. But I also love powerful drama and believe all of these flavors can be combined and provide an exciting... Go to bio
