a link to The University of Texas at Austin’s movie poster collection happened across my feed, and so i thought i’d share it here:
https://hrc.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/collection/p15878coll84?
as you will see, the posters range from the Silent Era up until the late 1970s, and cover the spectrum from super cool to delightfully terrible
while perhaps not the most useful resource for designing contemporary posters, i can see it providing some inspiration to those of us who have their screenplay set somewhere within this time period and want to give their poster a distinctive, authentic vibe
of course there are other resources such as:
https://www.cinematerial.com
https://filmartgallery.com
https://www.filmonpaper.com/posters/
i particularly enjoy looking at the posters for hollywood movies from (say) Eastern Europe and Asia – fun things happen when culture crosses cultures – plus it’s a great way of helping you break free from the current hollywood style(s)
needless to say, much of what you’ll see is still covered by copyright – so use these images as inspiration and not as clip art ;)
Cool resources, Robert.
