I was contacted by a Script Revolution member recently asking if he should put his script "on the market". When I asked him for more information, he said he'd been approached by someone (on another site) saying they could certainly get his script sold providing he paid them for some consultancy and pitching services.
This is always 100% a scam.
If someone thinks you have a valuable screenplay, they should be looking to produce it or gain commission on a sale. There is zero logic in someone saying you have something valuable and then asking you to pay them to sell it.
Please be aware of this very common scam and there are now modern variations of it which include packages and subscriptions to various "projects" marketed to look like they're doing you a favor by writing you a pitch and filming you a trailer.
Given the fact that the world and it's breakfast seem to be writing screenplays now it's a natural conclusion that some predatory shit bags will promise the earth in order to rob you.
The same problem has existed for decades with bands paying to play in bars.
They think Alan McGee* is gonna be there and drive them away in a limo.
These shysters should be bashing out their own material 24/7 if it's so easy to sell...
*For non UK residents... Alan McGee is a legendary Scottish record company owner, manager. Oasis etc. :-)
It's a wild west out there. I do like looking at the music industry and trying to learn from that too. I also feel it's an indicator of where the film industry is likely to go in time.
