Hey folks, I wasn't sure where to post the following, but it's of general "business" interest to filmmakers at every stage so at one time or another you'll probably find something of interest.  I subscribe to a newsletter from a lawyer in L.A. but most of his articles get published originally on Forbes so here's the link there and you can pick and choose articles to check out:

While we're at it, he also sent me a link to a YT video he did about AI but, he says, it was before "the two recent cases permitting the fair use defense for uploading copyrighted content by AI".  That issue is moving so fast even these guys can't keep up.

I cannot believe how fast AI is moving now. We're way past the stage of seeing it write scripts and pretty much in the stage where it can produce usable footage with consistent characters.

AI is terrifying to be honest. A computer can never replicate what comes from within.

studios are already using AI to do coverage and score scripts.

If you think about it, we've always written to satisfy an "algorithm" or with a target audience in mind -- it just used to be the save the cat beat sheet and anonymous readers. at least now we know the "reader" will be consistent. And I know a lot of writers don't want to be boxed into the "formula", but as an unestablished writer looking to advance in competition, make a first sale, or gain representation, running away from the formula can only hurt you.

if you use AI as an analytical tool and not to generate substance, it can be extremely helpful -- i think having a human reader look over your material is essential because AI isn't great at picking up on nuance and human emotion (yet), but cross-referencing that with a proper diagnostic evaluation by AI is also becoming essential -- at least from a pacing and technique angle.

This stuff isn't going away, so we have to face it head-on.
