Synopsis/Details
In 1942, our maternal great grandmother, Anna Amberg, is trapped in Aachen. She has been forced to leave her beautiful home, move to a small room, together with other members of the Jewish community of Aachen. She cannot imagine what the future holds. Her 4 children have escaped to England, but she has chosen to stay. Her only communication with them is through the Red Cross notes. Strictly censured and only 25 words long. Still, good news manages to come through: her eldest daughter, Irmgard, is pregnant. Deported from her home and alone, Anna makes a dress for her unborn grandchild out of the only material available, the curtains in her room. A few thousand miles away, Irmgard gives birth to her son, wishing her mother was there and clinging to the memories of her own, beautiful childhood.
