Synopsis/Details
The story begins with Matt and Rachel arguing over the morality of his accepting a contract to deny evidence of the destruction of the environment for the sake of paying off the mortgage and helping their daughter through college. When Matt is sucked through a portal to 50 years in the future by a Mysterious Woman, he discovers a vicious, polluted world where countries no longer exist and where mega-corporations compete and eliminate each other. Plus there is no privacy whatever because everyone must download their daily activity into the Mother. This leaves Matt to do the Mysterious Woman's dirty work of delivering a micro-chip to her Techie contact because Matt is not connected to their world. She gives Matt an ultimatum - he must do this task for her, and if not, he won't return home. Matt resolves to do the deed. He is soon chased by a Corporate Henchman through the difficult-to-breathe smoggy streets until he reaches the Techie who downloads the virus from the micro-chip to knock out a competing corporate power. Once done, both Matt and the Techie go their separate ways after he's told where to meet up with the Mysterious Woman again. When Matt reaches the Mysterious Woman, her words ring ominous before she returns him to the present: "Treasure your time, Matt. Enjoy the forests and the oceans while you can." In the last scene, there is a Newscast voice over a montage revealing activists throughout world protesting against the destruction of the environment and the rise of transnational corporate powers. At the very end, Matt and Rachel are seen among those protesters being arrested. For fans of science fiction and time travel, "A Protest in Time" is also an action drama following an environmental scientist who must make a moral choice for a greater cause. Thrilling and gritty, it invites the audience to question our times for the sake of future generations to come.
