Synopsis/Details
Set in the working class suburbs of Sydney during the 1970’s our story follows a Greek family’s tragic life, focusing on the unorthodox relationship between brothers, Alex and Travis.
Alex is blessed with a Mati, stone eye of protection at birth by his mother Sofia, while Travis is indifferent to his blessing.
Alex works in a chicken shop for pocket money and is an avid saver. Travis, on the other hand sells drugs for a gang of bikers but when the Police raid the bikers clubhouse, Travis unwillingly takes on a job working at a Casino.
Alex witnesses a meeting between Travis and two shady men, Warren and Colin at a warehouse. This attracts Alex’s attention and his concern about the devastation the brother's actions will cause to the family and their relationship.
Alex confronts Travis but is met with animosity and is told to keep out of his affairs. Travis, Warren and Colin successfully rob a high rolling Casino, however, during their getaway, Travis foils his own execution and manages to escape with $2.5 million in cash.
In his search for Travis, Alex stumbles across a new housing estate. In a tense Mexican standoff, both brothers refuse to back down, and in that moment, a realization strikes Alex with painful clarity - his brother has carried a demon within him all along.
A Saint and the Sinner highlights themes of family dynamics, culture religious traditions and sibling rivalry.
