Almost Never

A US Embassy is attacked, but this is only the beginning of a complex chain of events that threaten the survival of the human race. A peaceful Korean fishing boat disperses a designer "slate cleaner" virus (Hydrophobic Influenza) along the US west coast, while Russian ships drop undersea nuclear warheads at each major city. Kit, Army Weapons Specialist, and his team are sent to relieve the Embassy in Tehran. The staff was in a safe room, but rocket fire damaged the room. The Ambassador set off nerve gas, eradicating the crowd. The survivors from the Embassy fight their way across Iran to Azraq, Jordan in a dwindling number of vehicles. One armor-clad JLTV with Minuet, Kit, and Gunny inside makes it across the border to Jordan. But this is only a part of a greater plan, and a precursor to to an Iranian nuclear false flag attack on the Russian base at Tartus, Syria. This is launched from a minisub in Chesapeake Bay, only a few miles from the White House. Russia is deceived, and destroys the US base at Azraq, Jordan in retaliation. As well, Russian and NATO increase strength in Ukraine. A shooting war accidentally breaks out, and Russia attacks en masse, forcing NATO to resort to nuclear weapons. Russia launches a limited nuclear release at military targets in Europe and the US. America begins losing too many missiles, and initiates total release. The Russians follow suit, while a joint Sino-American bomber force sterilizes North Korea by dropping 1 megaton warheads on a grid pattern. Our unit runs out of fuel and crash lands a C5 cargo plane south of Portland, Oregon. But Portland is only partially destroyed by the bombs, and the radiation from the bombs has mutated the plague to make it less lethal, leaving a half a city's worth of hydrophobic, starving Infecteds to disperse over the countryside. They are forced to repair the nuclear warhead that didn't detonate and use it to destroy the rest of The Infected in Portland. Gunny is bitten in the attempt and the remote control for the bomb is destroyed, but Gunny stays behind to trigger the bomb manually, like the faithful dog that he was. The movie ends with Minuet and Kit silhouetted in the sunset, then morphs to one year later. The same scene has a large garden, the wing of the crashed C5 is converted to a picnic awning, and Minuet very pregnant. The same guns are near at hand, though. Superimposed, the text says "The Beginning".
