Synopsis/Details
The year is 2025. The American Space Center detects an asteroid, the size of France, hurtling towards Earth. The United States decides to obliterate the asteroid with rockets and divert its trajectory away from Earth. In this tumultuous period, Sara and her boyfriend Joe, uncovers that the asteroid harbors amino acids, confirming the presence of life on it. The rockets successfully strike the asteroid, causing a minor deviation in its path. Despite assurances from experts that the asteroid has been redirected and poses no threat to Earth, Russia, driven by political motives and a desire for global acclaim, launches an attack on the asteroid, resulting in its fragmentation and the descent of two pieces into Earth's atmosphere. One fragment plunges into the ocean, while the other lands in Kazakhstan, triggering a tsunami and an earthquake, leading to widespread devastation and loss of life. However, the most significant consequence of this celestial event is the emergence of a new form of life in the upper atmosphere, discovered by Professor Robbins. This life form, resembling a jellyfish, floats above the clouds and multiplies at an astonishing rate. This aerial creature not only obstructs sunlight from reaching Earth but also poses a lethal threat as its carcasses rain down on people and structures. Initially, it seems that military weaponry could easily eradicate this creature, but its resilience and rapid reproduction, coupled with the vast expanse of the sky in inaccessible regions, result in a swift and extensive spread of the creature's population, eventually engulfing the skies of nations.
Amidst this chaos, Sara resolves to venture into Kazakhstan with Joe, covertly, in hopes of retrieving a fragment of the asteroid for research and experimentation. However, Kazakhstan has heavily fortified the impact site, and the duo is apprehended by the Kazakh military. The United States intervenes by deploying commandos, who not only secure the release of Sara and Joe but also acquire a piece of the asteroid.
As days pass, the aerial creature continues its conquest, plunging cities and countries into darkness and burying them under a deluge of its carcasses. Sara, along with Professor Robbins, perseveres in her experiments on the asteroid and the aerial creature, aspiring to devise a substance that can halt the creature's reproduction. She administers the final test and injection on the creature, but with Washington under siege from the falling carcasses, she is compelled to evacuate the city without witnessing the outcome of her experimental substance on the creature. Professor Robbins, however, remains in the laboratory to monitor the results. All the while, the rest of the Earth's skies have been overtaken by the aerial creature, casting the planet into darkness.
