Synopsis/Details
Abi McQueen is struggling to hold down a job and suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), caused by the disappearance of her boyfriend Alex, who went missing in the town of Safford, AZ, whilst the pair where on an American road trip. Now, two years on, Abi receives an anonymous phone call from Arizona; the caller claims she knows what happened to Alex.
Safford, Arizona is a dark, mysterious place, the haze meanders over Mount Graham, shafts of moonlight puncture the tree line and the stars shine like beacons in the cosmic sky, the perfect place for the alien abduction capitol of America.
Rob McQueen, British serviceman, troubled alcoholic, is Abi’s estranged father. He wants to make up the relationship with his daughter but Abi is not interested, he has never been there for her before, there is no relationship between them.
Abi is constantly seeing hallucinations of her boyfriend Alex, they are getting more intense, as if trying to send her a message, well that’s how she interprets them. She also has very strong dreams of Safford, especially one very surreal night in a nightclub when her drink is spiked. She dreams of the kidnapping of two young girls from the very same place Alex disappeared.
Rob is not coping well, taking to drink and allowing himself to be taunted by and old acquaintance, eventually resulting in a violent ambush in a supermarket carpark.
Abi receives another anonymous message, this time drawing her attention to a newspaper article from Safford, detailing the disappearance of the very same girls Abi dreamed about. She decides she must travel back to Arizona but needs money. The only one who can afford to fund Abi’s need to go back is Rob. But he insists he travels with her, in the hope of rekindling their relationship. Abi refuses she’ll find the money some other way.
Abi realises that her visions/hallucinations were much more vivid whilst spiked so she sets out to obtain the drug from the very person who spiked her in an attempt to relive the moment and get some answers. She takes the hallucinogen and her world changes to a surreal cosmic experience, intense and electrifying.
Arizona Bound is a mystery drama unlike any other. Not only is it a dark search story dealing with kidnapping and murder, but it also enters realms of the mystical, creating a disorientating ‘edge of the seat’ experience. But above all, Arizona Bound is a story of loss and redemption, and the journey a troubled father and daughter must take in order to rekindle their relationship.
