Synopsis/Details
Back Then:
Nu Horizon was the hottest and most successful Boy Band of all times.
Today:
Due to Piracy, Illegal Downloading and YouTube, the Music Industry isn’t what it used to be. An artist can easily self produce a few songs, upload them to the Internet and become famous overnight. Social Media is all the craze and no one needs record labels to become a star.
Blue Cove Records CEO VINNY STONE (Vince Vaughn) has come to understand this all too well. In a last ditch effort to save his legacy, re-brand his iconic company and spark a new fire within his marriage, Vinny must find a solution and change with the times. Losing just isn't an option.
While throwing a Christmas party at his Mansion in Bel Air, Vinny has an emotional breakdown and retires early to his office for the night. With a glass of whisky in hand, he begins to wander the room glancing at all the awards and old photos of himself and his Band Mates. He is over taken with nostalgia and emotion. As his eyes fill with tears, he plops down in a chair, finishes the last of his drink and slowly drifts off to sleep.
Vinny wakes the following morning to his daughter bursting through his office doors inquiring about Stage-Coach and Coachella tickets. Groggy and confused he sluggishly walks over to his computer and begins looking into his daughters’ request. Vinny quickly perks up with excitement, grabs his phone and makes a call to his business partner and former manager FRANK BURNS, with instructions to meet him at the studio.
When Frank arrives at the studio, he finds Vinny half naked and amped up on energy drinks. Vinny begins to explain to him about his ah-ha moment of brilliance. A three day music festival more anticipated and bigger than any of its kind. Boy-Bands from all over the world both past and present, coming together to make music history. Frank concurs that the idea is genius, but has only one condition. Vinny must find and convince his old friends to reunite their once world famous Boy-Band "Nu Horizon" and headline this pop music festival. Vinny hesitates but with "BOY BAND-A-PALOOZA" on his mind, Vinny agrees and sets out on a hilarious journey to find his old pals and put the band that he once loved and called family back together.
The Mission:
Persuading BENJI, LUKAS and OWEN would come easily for the charming and fast talking Vinny. However locating and convincing the controversial and most talented member of the group WILLIAM (Will Ferrell) would not be. Feeling betrayed and forgotten by events that took place in the past. William, with a chip on his shoulder aggressively declines to rejoin the group and forces the band to consider other alternatives, even replacing him. However just when things begin to look sour for the band a miracle happens. William decides he is irreplaceable and surprisingly rejoins the group.
The Comeback:
It has been 20 years since Nu Horizon has performed together, and one thing is for sure. They are definitely not who they used to be. All of them, now in their 40's, have let themselves go in some way shape or form. Incredibly rusty and completely out of shape, the Band must now survive months of grueling workout sessions, intense vocal coaching, and gossip filled interviews, all while trying to keep personalities from clashing and ego's checked at the door. In preparation for the show, comedy, inspiration and determination will pave the way but old habits die hard and new struggles will arise.
Vinny and William must find a way to forgive and forget the conflicts between them that tore this group apart in the first place. Tempers will flare, unfiltered words will be spoken and feelings will be hurt, jeopardizing not only their future but what little they have left of their friendship. With help from their Band Mates, William finds a way to let go of his past, while Vinny comes to realize that although saving his legacy is definitely worth something, saving his marriage, rebuilding his friendships and creating a new future for the band is worth so much more. In the end it's their love for music, their fans and for each other that will catapult them back into stardom.
Imagine:
All in one weekend. All on one stage. The greatest Boy-Bands in history all performing as part of a massive, one of a kind concert production. Headlining that production is the most celebrated and successful of them all "Nu Horizon", whose members would include Vinny (Vince Vaughn), Benji (Ben Stiller), Lukas (Luke Wilson), Owen (Owen Wilson) and William (Will Ferrell). The laughter, the comedy, the smiles and the tears would truly tug at your heart. The cinematic and musical journey they would take you on would be epic. Nostalgia is at an all time high with Boy-Band reunions and tours taking place all over the world. The timing for a film like this could not be more perfect.
