Joanne Carter embarks on a cross-country journey to unravel the mystery surrounding the apparent murder of her husband's twin brother Stu Carter 10 years prior. Stu was in witness protection scheduled to testify against New England mob boss Vinny Sapienza when he was believed to have been killed in a fiery explosion in the state of Washington. In a quest to find her brother-in-law and save her husband, who's dying of leukemia, she unknowingly becomes the target of ruthless killers who want the truth to remain buried. Determined to survive and save her husband, Joanne devises a plan to kill two birds with one stone. Halle's documentary Karl Hess: Toward Liberty, which he co-produced with Peter Ladue, won an Oscar in 1981 for Documentary Short Subject. Halle was nominated again in the same category in 1982 for Urge to Build.
