Synopsis/Details
Birth of the Tiger was written for studios seeking a diverse project. With international enthusiasm in K-Pop, K-dramas and Parasite’s huge wins—-there is international interest is Asian films. It was a quarterfinalist in the Academy’s Nicholl Screenwriting Competition, it beat out 6, 379 screenplays. Title: Birth of the Tiger Genre: SyFy / Thriller Synopsis Concept: Genetic memory sometimes referred as Ancestral Memory, it is a memory present at birth that exists in the absence of sensory experience, and is incorporated into the genome over long spans of time. Note: Birth of the Tiger is…a PRESENT DAY saga that establishes the back story and introduces a global audience to the arrival of a Korean Hero…a hero with ALL his “Special Skills” derived directly from HIS own ancient culture. This Hero does not wear a cape and is written to be franchised. Story: Hyo, a Ph.D. candidate, teaches at USC. He is also the son of a world-class swordsmith. His life of study and managing his father’s shop is turned upside down when strangers force him to authenticate an ancient sword belonging to a Korean Mummy on display at the USC - Pacific Asian Museum (Pasadena). Hyo actions trigger the release of his genetic memory, a memory of the sword’s true owner, a legendary executioner from the Three Kingdoms Period (640 AD)– known as Tiger Owl. This ruthless killer demands that Hyo surrender his mind and body, so he, Tiger Owl may live again. Tiger Owl’s legend tells of his ability to summon his power guide; a vague and dreamlike—SIBERIAN TIGER. The activation of Tiger Owl’s memory allows Hyo to release his “special skill”. Under the influence of the Tiger Owl’s memory, Hyo cannot control Tiger Owl’s side of himself. He’s helpless, he struggles through a physical and psychotic transformation into a cold-blooded killer. Detective Kowalski, an LA police detective who has seen it all-until now, has little patience for theoretical neuroscience. His case begins with an odd murder with a sword that rapidly spins into a case of an ancient assassin. He hunts Hyo for murder, however, Soo Jin (20), Hyo’s younger sister idealizes her older brother and is stubborn and headstrong in refusing to aid Kowalski in his search for Hyo. She is fond of reading a Manhwa comic; the Legend of Tiger Owl. Hyo ’s only salvation is Angel Rainbow, a mysterious Mudang (Korean female shaman). She appears to be a strange woman possessing the ancient knowledge of Tiger Owl and the ability to guide Hyo through his nightmare journey under the control of Tiger Owl. Hyo’s journey through an ancient assassin’s brutality and an aggressive police detective end with Hyo’s destiny being cast, his future —the HEROIC new legend of TIGER OWL begins.
