Synopsis/Details
Raina Robinson, a stunning black bride, is about to marry her love, Malik Hammond. Michael Washington, Malik's best friend and best man, assists in his preparations, while Lester, Raina's father, starts acting oddly in front of her in the bridal suite. Detective James Bruner leads the investigation after Lester and Raina vanish from the wedding, following Malik and Michael’s discovery. Meanwhile, Lester who is revealed to be a devout follower of a clandestine, bee worshipping cult that has plagued the city and the world with the exclusive kidnapping of African American women, has brought Raina to one of the cult's many hidden caves to offer her to their sect leader Aristaeus. Bruner, determined to find Raina and his missing black girlfriend, Tameeka, devises a plan to use Rachel Neely, a black female officer, as bait to find the bee cult's hidden lair, while he searches Lester's home for clues. But, Randy Davis, a dirty cop who is secretly in the cult, dismantles Bruner's operation, resulting in Neely being taken by cult members and dying in a gruesome, televised death at the hands of Aristaeus. At the police station's holding cells, Bruner, who was nearly killed at Lester's exploding house by a bee cult member named Stripes, watches Davis commit suicide with a cyanide pill. During Neely's televised murder, Malik realizes that Edward Egan, a man from his past that he and Michael were involved in a murderous hit-and-run that killed Edward's family and left him severely burned, is actually Aristaeus after seeing Raina and Lester next to him while he makes a vengeful, personal threat to Malik. Lester and a hulking guard called The Gatekeeper gives Raina a guided tour of the cultists beehive inspired cave.
Later, Lester enters Raina's cell to find her and Bruner's missing troublesome girlfriend, Tameeka with her. Lester force feeds Raina a strange gelatin that the cult calls Royal Jelly, a food used to prep the mind for hypnosis. Lester then proceeds to put Raina in a trance, sending her to a place called "The Hive of Hypnos", where in Raina's mind, her deceased mother dwells. At the police station, Bruner receives a much needed lead in the bee cult case from Commisioner Hargraves. Spiro Gores, a billionaire philanthropist, owner of Hestia restaurants and Michael's employer, wants him to discipline a staff member that failed on a delivery, as he assures Malik that he'll increase his support to work with the police and find Raina. When Raina awakens, Aristaeus is in her cell and informs her that he's about to introduce her to their hundreds of followers as their new queen. Michael is questioned by Malik as he drives him home from Hestia about his knowledge of Kelli Alston after their earlier encounter of finding her wounded and wandering the highway, then recognizing Michael as they stopped to help, prompting her to leap over an overpass to her death in traffic below. Michael repeatedly denies knowing her and redirects Malik by reminding him to call his mother for her birthday. Later, Malik chats with Bruner in the club's parking lot about possibly interrogating Michael, then calls his mother to wish her a Happy Birthday, not realizing Edward was there listening. Malik watches Michael enter the club, follows him, loses sight of Michael, then desperately searches for him. In the restroom, Stripes exits a stall with a knife, kills Carlton, and reveals himself to be Michael.
Later, Malik finds Carlton dead and sends photos to Bruner who examines a GPS tracking device for Michael's car. Bruner stares at Malik's photo and text with interest. Tameka sneaks into Raina's cell to teach her how to "awaken" from the cult's trance technique, share an escape plan, and reveal the past imprisonment of Raina's mother. After leaving the club, Malik sees an SUV burning—a tragic reminder of Edward's family's fatal accident caused by him and Michael in the past. Malik approaches the burning vehicle to help a womman in a wedding dress behind the wheel, unaware of Edward aiming a flamethrower at his head and emerging from the shadows behind him. Lester and Aristaeus talk about Edward's abuse as the leaders stand- in decoy and Michael's arrival status. In the police interrogation room, Bruner, with a burnt and weathered photo of Michael and Lester sitting on a pile of dead bodies, retrieved after Lester's house exploded, attempts to get any information out of Michael that he can. He even questions his presence, according to Malik at the Masquerade Club. Malik fights for his life against Edward, shoots the SUV's gas tank, causing it to explode, and sends Edward down a dark ravine to a fiery grave.Tameeka, in Raina's cell, teaches her how to awaken from the bee trance, then reveals she has started an escape plan originated by her mother, before Lester killed her. After confirming the successful planting of the GPS on Michael's car, Bruner dismisses Michael from the police station.
Lester and Aristaeus discuss their long future with Raina as queen, until a guard leads them to Edward's burnt cell, where Aristaeus destroys it after he and Lester watch a projected image of Edward's message intendending to reveal to detective Bruner that Aristaeus' true identity is Spiro Gores. At the police station, Bruner tracks the GPS movement of Michael's vehicle. While at the cave, Lester is ordered by Aristaeus that they're evacuating because of his concern that Edward may have already informed the police of their location. Bruner and a police fleet of cruisers are ready to follow Michael's signal when Malik abruptly joins them. Lester enters the kitchen with cyanide, demanding the cook add it to the royal jelly for the cult's upcoming mass suicide. Michael soon receives a call from Lester about the troubling announcement and encourages him to quicken his arrival. Bruner and the police continue to follow Michael's GPS signal. Lester enters Raina's cell and orders Tameeka to help him prepare Raina for hypnosis, the swarm and to have sex with Aristaeus. Michael finally arrives, as the fleet of police cars arrive at the rural roads that lead through the forest and to the hidden bee cult cave entrance. Lester enters Aristaeus' chamber to inform him that preparation for the swarm is under way. And Raina is almost ready for him in her cell.
As they walk towards Raina's cell, they are stopped by Michael, Who Aristaeus greets then asks him to assist Lester with the preparations. While Lester and Michael team up to prepare, Aristaeus has sex with a hypnotized, chained down Raina. Malik rides with Bruner, he notices the intersection where he and Michael encountered Edward so long ago and realizes that Michael may have been trying to recruit him and bring him to the cults cave that same night. Aristaeus stands before his congregation and gives a message of heavenly ascension for the soon to be poisoned crowd. Tameka and her spread out escapees anxiously watch.
Lester stands in awe at Raina, dressed in Royal Greek Queen robes, but her crown is missing, as Lester turns to retrieve it off of the bed, Raina strikes Lester on the head with a beehive sculpture that was gifted to Raina by Aristaeus. Lester falls to the floor bleeding from his wound. In the gallery of the cave, Aristaeus has commanded the 100 plus cultists to begin to consume the cyanide laced gelatin. The devotees quickly begin to convulse, vomit blood and die. Tameeka and her group of women, feign death and lie on the floor and anxiously watch. Raina steps out of her cell to watch bodies falling before her dying. Aristaeus invites her to join himself and Michael, who she's surprised and enraged to see on stage. Raina grabs a fallen bee shaped centerpiece with a sharp stinger protruding from its abdomen. Once on stage, she stands before the dying crowd quickly turns and stabs Aristaeus in his torso. Tameeka hits the detonator, causing explosions throughout the cave. Bruner, bursts through the gate, leading to the cave's entrance. The forest guards nearby quickly open fire on Bruner and his fleet of police cruisers. One of the guards radios into the surveillance section of the cult's cave to alert them of the police's arrival. A bloody Aristaeus stumbles as the warning of police outside, the order to get to his personal helicopter and the blare of sirens, begin to ring out over the speakers. Tameeka detonates the final bomb as debris falls separating Raina Michael and Aristaeus. Tameeka screams for Raina to escape with her, but just as Raina insists that Tameeka should leave, Lester appears. Outside, Bruner and his team return fire on the cult's guards.
As he instructs Malik and a team to remain while the other team searches the caves exterior,
just as dying cultists begin to spill out of the caves mouth. Aristaeus escapes to his Royal chamber after Lester promises to bring Raina to their next hive location. Michael approaches the dazed Gatekeeper and orders him to escort him out of the cave. Tameeka sees this and concerned about her group of women, grabs a machete and follows As Lester and Raina engage in battle, Aristaeus reaches his chamber and escapes through a hidden door.
Lester forces Raina to the floor and begins to struggle, but with her last bit of awareness she stabs Lester in his throat, while Helen's apparition watches. Outside, the Gatekeeper after butchering his way through Tameeka's group of women, charges towards Bruner. Michael uses this opportunity to escape into the forest. But not without Malik, seeing him and chasing after him. As Aristaeus' helicopter escapes up and off into the distance, Bruner fights for his life against the savage Gatekeeper, until Tameeka stabs the giant from behind with a machette. After a year apart, Bruner and Tameeka finally embrace. Raina steps out of the cave asking the reunited couple about Malik. Bruner offers to take her where he should be. In the forest, Michael trips on an exposed tree root as Malik aims his gun at his once fallen friend. After an aggressive and revealing conversation, Malik shoots and kills Michael. When Malik turns around, Raina is there. Malik desperately asks about her well being ,experience with the cult and if she was raped. And she answers "No."
Eight months later, Malik and a pregnant Raina are getting married, until Aristaeus' voice is heard in Raina's head. In a panic; she looks for him, but the cult leader is nowhere to be found. What she fails to see, is Spiro Gores angrily watching her from a balcony as they enter their wedding car and drive away. Enraged, Spiro, now in the crowd, watches them depart, caressing a golden bee ring on his finger.
