Ten years after graduation, college friends Oscar, Patty, Lance and Eddie seem no closer to making their creative dreams come true. Oscar (the writer ) works at Food King as the manager. Lance (the photographer) spends his days doing headshots. Patty, an aspiring actress, runs from audition to audition – never getting her big break. The only successful member of the group is Eddie. Cynical and resigned to his life, Eddie works in the soul-destroying field of advertising. He makes a good living.

Things start to look up after Patty lands a role in an indie film: Romeo and Juliet, After the Apocalypse. Lance also gets a taste of success, when an independent project pays off. But doubts about the future remain. In their private fantasies, each friend faces specters of their future selves. What they could have been, versus who they’ve become. Things go from bad to worse when Patty’s film folds. Desperate, she sleeps with a director…and still doesn’t get the part. Eddie’s latest advertising gig is falling to pieces. And Oscar’s no closer to getting published. Even his Pennysaver articles are few and far between.

Oscar and Patty take off for a trip to the countryside to clear their heads – leaving Lance and Eddie alone to strategize. While away, Oscar and Patty rediscover each other – rekindling an almost forgotten flame. Upon their return, the group hit upon a plan: to combine their talents, and make their dreams a reality. No longer willing to wait for fate to find them, they set out to produce their own short feature. The film opens to critical acclaim. It’s a small step – but at least they’re heading in the right direction.
