When she arrives in Hangzhou to visit her twin sister, Hailee, a delayed pickup leads her to an unexpected encounter with Ryan Anderson—a charming international businessman she saves from choking at the airport. Acting on instinct, she tries to intervene—and is abducted herself. As Anna is thrown into the terrifying world of human trafficking, Hailee desperate to find Anna turns to Detective Man Zhu Bai, a single father and seasoned investigator, who quickly uncovers that Anna’s disappearance is part of a larger criminal operation. Meanwhile, Anna fights to keep herself and the other victims alive, using her medical training to tend to a young girl on the brink of death. But survival becomes even more dangerous when she’s taken to the house of a minor crime boss to be the entertainment. When her shirt is torn transplant surgery scars are revealed and the minor crime boss throws her to his thugs. Anna fights for her life, but she is ultimately carried off by the ice-cold Kang Jia Zan to a private room. Just when Anna thinks it is all over, police lights shine through a window and the police and criminals have a shoot-out in the foyer. Anna performs triage until she passes out. Anna wakes up reunited with Amie but is shocked when Kang walks into her hospital room. Amie and Man Zhu Bai assure Anna that Kang is an undercover agent and he notified the police. However, Anna realizes her problems are not over when Kang interviews her, and Ryan, the man she saved at the airport, becomes the number one suspect as the head of the criminal organization and he is pursuing Anna. Season One Arc: The first season will follow Anna as she tries to get back to the USA and to “normal”, but being in the middle of a police investigation in a foreign country is anything, but that. However, going home turns out to be more dangerous because Ryan, not knowing that Anna is aware of his criminal life, uses his connections at Anna’s hospital to force them to work together. Anna’s PTSD escalates until Kang shows up at her door as a new Special Advisor for the Boston police. Themes While the crime aspect brings the characters together it is the relationships that are the heart of the series. Anna deals with the emotional trauma not just from her kidnapping, but also from growing up with a deformed heart and waiting to die. Kang, a loner discovers a home on the other side of the ocean among his new colleagues and Anna’s family. Amie continues her journey of self-discovery having always been the “good kid” and finding her own identity while trying to navigate being in a relationship with Man Zhu Bai, who comes with a daughter and a family that has their views on what a daughter-in-law should be. It is a show about breaking down the barriers between people be they physical, social, mental, or in our hearts.

The Writer: Jill Godley

Founder of Blue Pen, script consulting services. I love a great love story, big screen, small screen or a novel. I used to read a book a day until I became obsessed with Asian dramas. Now I can do two of my favorite things at the same time; read and watch a great story unfold. My favorite type of comedy is witty. From Bad Boys to Pride & Prejudice, characters with great comebacks are my favorites. My husband got me started screenwriting when he suggested " you watch so many shows, why don't you write your own." So, I did. When I am not writing, I am being a mom to my two wonderful kids.
