Synopsis/Details
The story primarily focuses on Chris Mathers & Lydia Izbeki, two kids from opposite sides of the lifestyle divide, thrown together on a precarious meth run (formerly, referred to as a Bud Run) through the dense often dangerous forest between Canada and the US. Chris just two years out of high school and works part time as a store clerk lives with his mother, Lucille, who is gravely ill. They fall behind on the rent and face eviction unless they can come up with the rent money owed to Lenroy Mims, a local businessman, and landlord with ulterior motives. About to go past the deadline Mims makes a deal with Chris to travel into Canada and pick up a package for him.
Chris is paired with Lydia Izbeki, similar in age to him, and estranged from her mom due to her lifestyle choices. Lydia is coerced by Mims into going along with Chris because of her involvement in a terrible event one night the past summer. They are sent to pick up the product (meth) from a lab and bring it back unaware that as the local sheriff’s department starts to close in on him, Mims’ feeling the heat decides to cut his losses, kill them as soon as he has his stuff and run.
Bud Run is a mosaic exploration of individual sexuality, the destruction addiction can wrought on people’s lives, and communities. It’s also a fresh take on the bonds of friendship form through shared experiences and hardship as well as betrayal and redemption. These two kids face unrelenting weather, hidden dangers, the very real prospect of being caught and prosecuted by the authorities and finally, a highly dangerous antagonist. The story also follows Deputy’s Dan Shefferdan, better known as Sheff, and his partner Nate Cleminson, Clem for short, two country cops waging their own personal war against this epidemic and the death and carnage it has wrought on the community at large.
Bud Run was written along the lines of films such as “The Mountain between us” and “The Edge.” With a nod to “Kid Cannabis.
