Synopsis/Details
Executing a meticulous plan, RODNEY TIBBS (20s) an obsessed fan kidnaps former TV star and relegated B-movie actress, KELLY RYAN (20s). He has plans to resurrect Kelly’s career and turn her into an ‘A’ list movie star. The scenario evolves as he anticipated. Kelly, upon regaining consciousness, is seized by panic and yearns for freedom, but her plea falls on deaf ears. Confined and bound to a bed, she becomes a reluctant performer on Rodney's home CCTV surveillance network from his comfortable rural home office.
Detectives CULAK (50s) and MCCOMAS (30s) investigate Kelly's mysterious disappearance. It takes a dramatic turn as her agent manager, MARGARET ROTH (50s), weaves a narrative implicating her partner, a well-known TV actor named JIMMY SINGH (30s). He is arrested based on circumstantial evidence and police identification from Kelly's personal trainer, Jimmy fits into Rodney's scheme perfectly due to their striking physical resemblance.
As the plot thickens, Kelly and Rodney engage in a battle of wills, but Rodney manipulates Kelly's psychological state, driving her towards the brink of insanity. Kelly, understanding the improbability of escape, tries to gain Rodney's trust. Astonishingly, as she bonds with Rodney, particularly when she discovers his mental health problems, she starts to fixate on him and has a growing reluctance to escape, charmed by his methods of coaching her in Shakespearean plays, which unveil her hidden acting prowess. Coupled with this claustrophobic and cloying new bond that Kelly has formed, this was not part of his plan and it throws his meticulous plans into turmoil.
The police meanwhile are getting closer to finding Kelly through the help of public and private CCTV cameras that have over a number of weeks of investigation captured Jimmy Singhs' range rover car travelling from the abduction scene to a rural location outside of the city. A very close encounter with the detectives at his place of work throws Rodney into a state of panic, he has a meltdown and decides that he has to get rid of Kelly in order to protect his freedom and possible incarceration. But the attempted 'return' of Kelly triggers a near-violent confrontation, which forces Rodney to incapacitate Kelly with chloroform. Leaving her in a spot near her home and accessible to the police, he anonymously tips off her location to cash in on the substantial reward money.
Upon questioning in the hospital by Culak, Kelly attributes her disappearance to a mental breakdown and the investigation cools down, but Rodney's peace is short-lived. At this home he receives delivery of an award-winning feature film DVD that Kelly wrote, starred and produced about her captivity. After watching extracts, Rodney understands his freedom is on borrowed time – she holds the power to expose his crime whenever she wishes. She now controls the narrative and walks away from this ordeal the winner!
