Synopsis/Details
Chapel is a Western coming-of-age drama set in East Texas, 1877. It follows Clarence Chapel, a soft-spoken, sheltered young man who’s never stepped beyond the boundaries of his dusty hometown. He spends his days sweeping floors at the local saloon and dreaming of a life bigger than the one he knows. Everything changes when he meets Andy Blanchard, a friendly traveler headed to Arkansas to reunite with his fiancée, Maggie Toliver. The two strike up a fast friendship over drinks and stories. But after a poker game gone wrong with the volatile Bart McGinnis, Andy is attacked and left for dead in an alley behind the general store. Clarence finds Andy bleeding out. With his last breaths, Andy gives Clarence a gold engagement ring and a tin of letters from Maggie. He makes Clarence promise to deliver them to her in person in Little Rock, insisting she deserves the truth face-to-face. Clarence vows to honor Andy’s dying wish. Despite warnings from the town sheriff and his surrogate guardian, Uncle Gary, Clarence arms himself with Andy’s revolver, saddlebag, and horse and rides out on his first journey beyond the only world he’s ever known. On the trail, Clarence struggles to survive the harsh realities of the frontier. He learns to hunt, camps alone under the stars, and begins to grow into a man shaped by loss, duty, and grit. Along the way, he meets a family of travelers, the Higginses, who offer him temporary companionship and a glimpse of kinship he’s never had. He bonds with Lewis, the youngest, and defends his precious bundle of letters when some of the others mock him. As Clarence reads Maggie’s heartfelt letters, he begins to understand the depth of her love and the life she and Andy had hoped to build. Her words drive him forward and give him purpose, even as danger looms. By the time he reaches Arkansas, Clarence has changed. No longer the naive saloon boy, he’s become someone stronger, steadier, and willing to stand for something bigger than himself. His journey is more than a promise kept, it’s a step into manhood and the beginning of a new chapter in his life.

The Writer: Josh ODonnell

Screenwriter in East Texas. Excited about being part of a community with people who are interested in the same things as me. I think my friends are tired of reading my stuff. More about me: Husband, father, employee, generally hilarious (according to me). My favorite movie is Die Hard and I'll gladly try to convince you why it should be yours as well. Go to bio
