Christmas Avenue has been reviewed several times on Blacklist.com. Here are some of coverages:

“This is a unique plot for a Christmas themed movie and the concept and log line alone stand out as a major strength for the script overall. It’s got a ton of action and original little trailer moments (like elves in jet-packs for example) that produce some strong and entertaining violence and thrills within this world. The twist at the end pulls things together for Jamie and his family after all is said and done is a perfect way to wrap things up and bring Gnomie’s character full circle as well. It’s an enjoyable and fast-paced read with a happy ending”.

“Writers often forget how important dynamic visuals are for young audiences, but here the writer makes every effort to provide spectacle throughout. A great example of this invention is the Glymph, who a minor but pivotal role in the plot and have a delightful design that comes complete with its own catchphrase. The premise works well and the opening teaser of Halloween monsters being dropped into a Christmas celebration offers a nice hook for the rest of the story. The script is heavier on action than a standard kid’s film, which large-scale battle scenes that are manic while being bloodless enough to not actually feel violent. And the script managers to include some Pixar-esque sentimentality as well, with the story of Eddie’s sickness providing the type of deep emotional stakes that tend to color animated films about humans (as opposed to the talking animal ones, which keep things a bit more light)”.

The concept of Christmas Avenue where Elves, Reindeer, and other Christmas types go to learn their trade, is a setting with tremendous potential for a family friendly story. Jamie‘s initial arrival does a good job of establishing and exploring some of the opportunities there, with the clumsy wannabe Santa being particularly strong comedically. Jamie‘s personal feelings about what has happened with his brother are deeply connected to the Hulk-Monsters, as established in his flashback, giving the prominent role in the attack on Rockefeller Center a strong emotional meaning for Jamie. The story ends well, with a great payoff on the Wish-0-Meter concept and an appropriately uplifting resolution for a Christmas story”.
