Synopsis/Details
EMILY KENNEBROCK, a young PR executive who's on the fast track for success, is not a big fan of Christmas. And she's definitely not happy when she gets assigned to do pro-bono work for a struggling children's home in Christmas Falls, New Hampshire during the holidays. Emily wants her emotionally distant boyfriend, BRYAN LANGDON, to come with her, but he's too busy. When she arrives at the children's home, called Starling House, she meets director JAKE HUGHES. Jake was an orphan who spent the first seven years of his life at the home. A 7-year-old Jake was in the home's parlor room when he was told he had finally been adopted. It was the best day of his life, so he painted a circle around the spot to remember exactly where he was. Now when Jake learns a child is going to be adopted, he takes them to the same circle to tell them the good news. Emily and Jake work through their initial differences and prepare for a Christmas fundraiser. Emily also tells Jake the somber reason she doesn't like the holidays, and why her assignment to help Starling House has special meaning. She lost her parents two days before Christmas as a young girl, and was taken in by her uncle and aunt. Emily and Jake's bond grows deeper as they realize they were both orphans, just at different times. On the day of the fundraiser, a winter storm develops and few people attend. Starling House is far short of its financial goal. The bright moment involves the adopted families who attend. Emily invited the now-adult kids who Jake had helped. As a surprise for Jake, Emily creates a special video with the adoptees and their parents. The adoptees sit in the circle as they talk about the emotional moment when Jake told them they had been adopted. Emily and Jake decide to share the video on the home's Facebook page. The video goes viral and donations pour in. They wildly surpass their goal and Starling House is saved. Just as Emily and Jake start to get physically close, Bryan suddenly shows up to take Emily back home. At her staff Christmas party, Emily is shocked by a hokey public marriage proposal by Bryan dressed as Santa. Emily decides to return to Christmas Falls. But is it too late? When she reaches Starling House, Jake answers the door. Emily leads Jake into the white circle and tells him she's fallen in love with him. Jake shares his love for Emily, they kiss tenderly and stand together embracing in the circle.
