Synopsis/Details
Zane Walters and his buddies can't wait for their annual guy's vacation. The venue is CyberPlay Resorts, the world's first virtual-reality theme park. Forget about gaming on a console - CyberPlay will plunge your entire party into the most realistic VR adventure ever! As a favor to his wife, Zane invites his brother-in-law Brock to tag along. At the outset of their vacation, Brock proves he’s the same obnoxious, controlling “know-it-all” he was back in college. Worse yet, the guys quickly learn Brock is a cold-blooded gamer who'll do whatever it takes to outscore the others, even if it means gunning down an Iraqi child during a simulated Baghdad campaign. After all, there's a $25,000 purse at stake and Brock is determined to win it. Brock’s heartless behavior not only infuriates Zane and the others, it also draws the wrath of a cyber-creature seeking revenge. This killer ruthlessly pursues the guys through various worlds - from ancient Greece to the Wild West. After it executes Zane's friend Wade (for real!) the guys finally grasp the severity of their situation: the game has turned against them and there's no way out. Let me share what a reader from The Black List had to say about CyberPlay: This is such a cool concept brimming with a lot of timely, relevant themes and social commentary. What will corporations put their consumers through all in the name of entertainment and profit? How would the violence within a game really effect the human psyche if people were physically present within it? And what kinds of evils are human beings capable of if they think something is "just a game"? The way the danger unfolds in the midst of all the entertainment is exciting, a la JURASSIC PARK when the tourists realize that they're no longer safe. Welcome to CyberPlay – what’s your adventure?

The Writer: Ed Beverly

I've been interested in screenwriting since 2010, and have developed six scripts in the past decade. I know - it's not a "crank 'em out" tempo, but work and life take up a lot of my free time. What's interesting to note is that as much as I loved my first screenplay - I look back now in horror! Too much exposition, on-the-nose dialog, unclear character needs - you get the picture. Developing as a screenwriter is a journey, and I am still traveling down that road. Go to bio
