Synopsis/Details
Jake and Chad meet at a lumber camp in Washington State in 1916. Chad gets involved with the Wobblies and convicted of sedition in 1920 during the first red scare. Jake resolves to wait until Chad's ten year prison sentence ends, so he moves to town and lives at a boarding house that belongs to two woman suffrage activists. Jake is at the prison when Chad goes free. They buy a small plot near the Canadian border, ten miles from the nearest road, build a cabin, and live happily until Jake dies of a stroke thirty years later. Ends with Chad sitting on Jake's fresh grave, crying, considering his options, which include killing himself. This story borrows from serious historical research.

The Writer: William Turner

I have a Ph.D. in U.S. history and a J.D. I'm a great story teller. My command of English is non pareil. I like to write historically well grounded short stories that lend themselves to film treatment. I'd love to develop any of my stories into screenplays. I'd also like to work on scripts for movies about prominent historical figures, especially from underrepresented groups. Ida B. Wells' life would make a fabulous movie as would Harriet Tubman's. Happy to chat with anyone. Let's talk. Go to bio
