Synopsis/Details
Story told by songs see script for proposed soundtrack Act One David’s Past: Using songs to tell the story of a young David McCormick in the mid 1990’s. He meets his to be wife as a freshman in college, proposes marriage at their college graduation ceremony. They move to Detroit to work in Advertising, but long for a simpler country life. They start a family and in fact move to the country where they raise their son, start a small business and help on David’s family farm. David decides to join the local volunteer fire department. We follow David going to fire academy, then on to emergency calls and finely to the porch of the house on fire. Act Two David’s Present(s): David is on the porch of the house on fire. Knowing that there are two young children still inside he must decide if he puts his own safety aside and go in alone. David decides to go into the house and after a dramatic rescue of both young children he is killed in a backdraft. We see his emotional funeral in full honors. Just then the scene cuts back to David back on the porch in front of the door. This time he decides to play it safe and wait for backup to arrive before going in to save the children. This decision seals the fate of the two young children. We see David living a long life with his wife and son. Expect haunting David for the rest of his days is the thought of those two children and their mother. He sees those children as faint ghosts throughout his life as the children’s mother is eventually committed to an insane asylum do to her grief. Act Three David’s Future We are back with David on the porch of the house on fire. This time David goes in to save the children. As soon as he enters the house, we jump years into the future. Just then David sees his son and the girl he is going in to save several years in the future wed and have children of their own. David’s son and his wife both see faint ghosts of David throughout their days, but it’s a happy proud David watching over his grandchildren. At the end we see David standing with his back to the camera facing the door on the porch. He turns his head towards the camera and smiles through his SCBA mask and opens the door. As the door is opened a bright blinding light shines outward making him appear to disappear as he walks through the door…
