Haeyun Jung lives with her ailing father, survivor of a traumatic brain injury, and her mother, who manages a small apartment complex in Koreatown, Los Angeles. When Haeyun’s mother disappears, she must juggle taking care of her father, attend to the tenant’s various needs, and prepare for an important dance audition while ignoring the gnawing feeling that her mother may have abandoned them. One day, she discovers a strange hole in the alley behind the apartment complex. While peering inside, she experiences a vision, reliving a memory from the past. Frightened, she leaves - without realizing she may have unleashed an eldritch supernatural entity into the world - the Eyecatcher. Haeyun begins to unravel, self-harming and suffering terrifying nightmares. As the truth comes out regarding her guilt and involvement in her father’s accident, the Eyecatcher makes its way into the apartment complex, jumping from host to host, wreaking havoc and horror. Haeyun is drawn back to the hole and has a psychedelic vision where she uncovers the Eyecatcher’s inner sanctum. She returns to find the tenants in various states of disarray, and tries to convince them that they are in danger. A power outage forces the tenants to split up, and the Eyecatcher uses this opportunity to target each individual tenant, altering their perception and feeding on their fear, grief, and resentment. When Haeyun and the tenants try to escape the complex, the Eyecatcher infects her father, and she chooses to follow it, diving into her father’s subconscious to fight the entity on familiar psychic battlegrounds. Inside her father’s broken mind, Haeyun learns of the Eyecatcher’s intentions, and reconnects with the part of her father’s soul that is still intact. Making peace with him, her love and trust prove to be a stronger force than the Eyecatcher’s goading malevolence, and she ultimately defeats it, returning to the real world. With her father and mother now gone, Haeyun begins the process of healing and reclaiming her own life…but has she truly awakened this time?
