Synopsis/Details
We open in Central America where our hero, Cole Praystone, enters a saloon where a vicious gang of murderers that call themselves the Rojo Rebels hangout. Cole is looking for their leader, a monster that goes by the name of Rojo Chupacabra. However, this is a dangerous crowd that doesn't take kindly to strangers asking questions, which leads to an action scene where Cole skillfully and violently deals with a dozen deadly bad guys. Our hero is not someone you want to mess with. Rojo Chupacabra makes his appearance and we are treated to another action packed fight where Cole is overmatched by a monstrous bad guy. Cole wins, but not before the dying Rojo Chupacabra issues a warning/threat to Cole's dad. Cole collects his bounty from the local Federale, hands him his card which reads "Fear Walkers, Inc. Bounty Hunters of the Paranormal". Cole returns to his hometown of Whitefish, Montana to check up on his dad, only to find him passed out drunk in bed. While in the process of staying overnight, Cole absorbs the memories of living there, including a sad one of his older brother whom has since passed. The phone rings and the Sheriff asks him to help with an ominous investigation, a werewolf had killed one of the townsfolk. But this was not an ordinary werewolf attack. The victim is the coroner's wife, Mary Samuels, and her grief stricken husband Frank Samuels has the unpleasant task of examining the crime scene. Further, the victim was killed in the almost exact same manner as the way Cole's brother was killed, making this case even more personal. And to increase the intensity of the situation, this killing could mean that the unspoken treaty between the werewolves that inhabit the woods outside of Whitefish, and the townsfolk has been broken which could lead to an unwinnable war between man and wolf. After a quick investigation, Cole discovers that this attack was done by a rogue werewolf. He tells the Sheriff he will go it alone and kill the rogue to avert the war. As he’s preparing his gear, he flashes back, and we see his younger self grab a rifle to go after the werewolves right after his brother was killed. His initial effort fails, and he is captured by the werewolves but the alpha of the group, a nasty werewolf Cole calls Silver Joe, spares Cole’s life and sends Cole home beaten and with his tail between his legs. Back in the present, Cole is hunting the rogue werewolf while doing his best to avoid any unnecessary encounters when along come Frank, hell bent on getting revenge. Cole reluctantly allows the team up, and ultimately, they find the rogue werewolf they’re looking for. Cole wounds and questions the rogue wolf, but instead of finding a snarling uncooperative beast, the rogue knows Cole and cryptically tells him to keep out of this one and to leave before the other werewolves find him. When Cole doesn’t listen, the rogue taunts Frank insulting his wife, glad that he killed the traitorous bitch, until Frank can’t listen to him anymore and finishes him off. Frank kills the rogue, getting his revenge, but his shots alerts the other werewolves in the pack to their presence. Cole and Frank run, a nasty group of six werewolves on their trail. They cripple the first one they encounter but leave him alive in hopes he will tell the others to end this before it gets out of control. After Cole and Frank leave, the other five pack members kill the wounded werewolf because he’s now weak and continue pursuit. Frank and Cole make their last stand at a stable filled with horses on the outskirts of town. What follows is a wild action scene where Frank and Samuels fight the werewolves. They initially hide in a pile of manure to cover their scent and catch the first one off guard. After that, it’s man vs monster in a suspenseful finish. Samuels gets cut down. Cole manages to survive, burning down the stable in the process. But just as with Rojo Chupacabra, one of the werewolf’s hints at a bigger threat coming, implicating that the devil is on his way. However, that’s a worry for the future. For now, Cole thinks the battle is done. Unfortunately, he’s not. Silver Joe, the ultimate alpha werewolf, shows up with a much larger pack. He tells Cole that the pack that attacked him were a fringe group in the pack, not acting under his rule. He reveals that Samuels is still alive. Tells Cole that there is no war. Then for the heck of it, he knocks Cole out and leaves him there for when the medics and police arrive. Cole is woken up by his father and the Sheriff. The banter between Cole and his father reveals the tension between them. There’s a lot of anger brimming beneath Cole’s surface. In the aftermath, Cole visit Father Miguel, the town wise man who the flashbacks revealed knew something about his brother’s death that he has yet to reveal. After their conversation, Cole decides to seek out his mother, who’s been absent since Cole’s brother’s death, doing something she feels needs doing. As Cole leaves, Frank shows up and talks his way into joining Cole on his mission to discover who was responsible for killing Cole’s brother, as that’s probably the same entity ultimately responsible for the death of his wife. They drive off together with no particular place to go as “The Devil Inside” plays on the radio.
