Synopsis/Details
After a failed experiment by inventor, entrepreneur, and habitual tinkerer, Joe Digby, draws an Alien entity out of the void and deposits it in his workshop, Joe nurtures the embryonic life form for several months intrigued by the life form's rapid growth, eventually taking over a fair portions of the workshop.
After a chance physical encounter between the pair allows the alien to absorb a vast amount of knowledge from its benefactor, and they begin to communicate, Joe learns Fred, the nickname he's given to the alien, has the ability to instantaneously move from place to place allowing them to wander the planet. As that wears thin as a form of entertainment, they discover that Fred can tap into any radio transmission, where to their surprise the discover that a miniature sub has been lost in the deepest part of the ocean, the |Marianas trench. ON discovering that no attempt is going to be made to rescue the crew, they set out bring them to the surface. Although successful, their endeavours bring them to the attention of a rogue element of the CIA, that sees Fred as an answer to a dilemma they have.
After kidnapping Joe and trying to get their hands on Fred, which fails, they attempt to coerce Joe into revealing where the, what they believe is nothing more than a contraption, is located, Fred rescues Joe, but while in their hands, he learns of a plot to kidnap, high ranking officials plus other dignitaries and ransome them off, which forces the pair to draw others into their little cabal, upto and including the President of the United States.
After numerous adventures, including another trip to the bottom of the Marianas Trench, a trip inside a downed alien craft, and the rescue of numerous dignitaries, they eventually coral the miscreants in a massive cavern deep beneath the earth's surface, where they are permanently imprisoned.
